Kaufland has placed recycling machines for plastic containers, bottles and aluminum cans in all 144 stores in Romania, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the retailer, Agerpres reports.
Kaufland Romania began equipping stores with selective collection machines in 2018, starting with 3 stores.
Since the beginning of the year and so far, more than 1 million customers have used the recycling machines provided by Kaufland, recycling more than 5,700,000 packages, according to the release.
The number of customers recycling has now increased by more than 40% from the 700,000 recycling in September 2020.
Kaufland has set a target of reducing plastic use by 20% by 2025, and 100% of its own-brand product packaging will be made from materials that allow maximum recycling.
Customers who use vending machines and recycle packaging receive discounts on their purchases as part of the “Recycle and Save” campaign, the release said.
Customers who recycle packaging receive discount coupons as follows: people who bring 5 containers (plastic containers up to 3 liters, bottles or aluminum cans up to 1 liter) to the vending machines in the car parks of the shops receive a coupon with an extra 10% discount on the promotional price communicated in the offer for items marked “Recycle and Save”.
Coupons can be obtained and used for 2 weeks in all Kaufland stores.
