Ford Puma, the best-selling hybrid in Romania. The company is preparing the arrival in showrooms of the electrified Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus in February and March.

According to data published by the Directorate of Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration (DRPCIV), Ford Romania ends 2021 as the market leader in the commercial vehicle segment, while Ford Puma is the best-selling hybrid model on the market. The year 2022 promises to be an important one in terms of launches, with the E-Transit, Ranger, as well as the Ford Fiesta and Focus models at the forefront.

In 2021, the commercial vehicle market (excluding the HCV segment) grew by 14% compared to 2020, an increase mainly due to positive developments in the 2T and pick-up segments. Thus, Ford maintains its leading position with a 19.7% market share and a 21% increase in volumes compared to 2020.

The Ford Transit Custom model achieves its best segment share in eight years at 30.7% and a 30% increase in volumes sold compared to 2020. The Ford Ranger maintains its segment leadership for the fifth consecutive year with a 37.4% segment share and 18% volume growth compared to 2020. Of total Ford Ranger sales, the Raptor version accounts for a 32% share.

The Transit model is on a positive trend, with a 30% increase over 2020, so it ranks second in the segment with an 18.47% share.

Ford Puma – the best-selling hybrid model in Romania in 2021

Produced exclusively at the Craiova plant from the second half of 2019, the Ford Puma is the best-selling hybrid-powered model in 2021 (2,765 Hybrid units). Market share in the segment has seen a significant increase from 6.71% in 2020 to 9.41% in 2021. Ford Puma is also the best-selling Ford model in Romania.

At the same time, the Ford Kuga, produced in Valencia, had total sales of 1,064 units in Romania last year, of which 397 units were hybrids (MHEV, Full-Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid). The market share for all versions sold increased from 4.53% in 2020 to 7.02% in 2021.

Ford accelerates electrification in 2022 and prepares new models

The new Ford Fiesta is set to arrive in Ford showrooms in mid-February, followed by the new Ford Focus just a month later. Both models will offer customers multiple versions of electrified powertrains.

After debuting last year on the Romanian market, the Mustang Mach-E is now available in a GT version with 487 hp, all-wheel drive and a maximum range of up to 500 km.

In terms of commercial vehicle launches, Ford Romania will focus this year on the all-electric E-Transit – which offers the longest range in the segment (317 km WLPT), as well as the new Ranger, the most advanced and connected Ranger ever built by Ford.

By mid-2026, 100% of Ford’s passenger car range in Europe will be fully electric or Plug-in Hybrid, with the transition to an all-electric range by 2030. Ford’s commercial vehicle range in Europe will also be 100% zero-emission capable, fully electric or Plug-in Hybrid by 2024. Two-thirds of commercial vehicle sales will be fully electric or Plug-in Hybrid vehicles by 2030
