“They must only be ridden on one lane when riding on public roads and electric scooter riders are required to carry their ID,” the Interior Ministry announced.

It is also stated that scooter riders are prohibited from riding their scooters when under the influence of alcohol or psychoactive substances or from riding their scooters when the road surface is covered with ice or snow.

The difference with the rules for cyclists is that in the case of electric scooters, the direction of travel is changed by the driver moving alongside the scooter.

“As far as the technical conditions for electric scooters are concerned, they must be equipped with an appropriate, functional steering system, i.e. an effective braking device, and be equipped with an audible warning system, lights and at least one fluorescent-reflecting device at night or when visibility is reduced. Electric scooters must also be equipped with fluorescent-reflecting elements or devices on wheels which, when in motion, form a continuous circle,” the government decision reads.

The government decree also introduces green number plates for electric cars if they use alternative fuels.

It also regulates some administrative procedures in the field of road traffic (e.g. the procedure for the implementation of penalty points, the procedure to be followed in case the driver does not have the registration certificate or driving license, the circuit of the official reports where only main traffic fines have been imposed, etc.).
