After negotiations that lasted more than a year, Serbian farmers will start selling their products in the stores of the Romanian Remarkt chain, a premiere in the trade between the two countries.

Serbia’s ambassador to Romania, Stefan Tomasevic, announced the initiative in the Serbian press, quoted by Rador. He said that there have previously been individual attempts to cooperate on introducing Serbian products on the Romanian market, but everything was short-term.

Customers in Romania now have the option to purchase Serbian sweets, spices, wines, canned meat, as well as other products. “Remarkt” is a chain of stores that operates especially in the western part of Romania, with supermarkets in Oradea, Arad, as well as in smaller markets in Timisoara, in the area where the Serb population gravitates.

The Serbian ambassador also stated that he is eager for the sale of Serbian products, which should reach the shelves by Easter.

The Serbian ambassador said that the initiative was made possible by the vision shown by the government in Belgrade, which focuses on encouraging exports.

“We will have a promotion in Arad at the end of April, before Easter, and we expect the cooperation with other Serbian producers to begin shortly after that,” Tomašević added.
