The National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) has approved the Regulation on the organization and operation of the online platform for switching electricity and gas suppliers, which will lead to less bureaucracy and a change of energy supplier within 24 hours.
At the meeting of the Regulatory Committee on 26.01.2022, the Regulation on the organization and operation of the online platform for changing the electricity and gas supplier and for contracting the supply of electricity and natural gas was approved.
The Order approving the Regulation shall be published in the Official Gazette of Romania, Part I, shall enter into force on the date of publication and shall apply from 28 August 2022.
The regulatory act provides the framework for the implementation of the online platform to optimize the operational processes in the energy market in order to reduce the bureaucracy for citizens and the business environment, generated by requests for change of supplier by managing the flow of information in a fully automated way to honor the requests, respecting the legal deadlines and efficiently using the financial and human resources of all entities involved.
From 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2022, ANRE is implementing the project “Development of the institutional capacity of the National Energy Regulatory Authority to simplify the process of changing electricity and gas supplier”, co-financed by the European Social Fund through the Operational Programme Administrative Capacity 2014-2020.
This project will make it possible to meet the new European requirements, which stipulate that by 2026 the technical process of changing suppliers must be completed within 24 hours, as well as to achieve interoperability of the data on changing suppliers in terms of format.
