One third of Romanians intend to purchase a house (survey)

A third of respondents to a survey by Reveal Marketing Research say they want to buy a home, and most of them are looking to buy a house, according to a statement quoted by Agerpres.

After a period in which most young people spent more than 90% of their time at home and the concept of Work From Home became a sought-after perk, Reveal Marketing Research conducted a survey on the intention to buy a home (house or apartment) among young people aged 25-34: are they planning to buy their own home?

Romania is the country with the highest number of home ownership among all EU countries. According to Eurostat, more than 95% of Romanians own their own home.

According to a new nationwide survey by market research company Reveal Marketing Research, 34% of respondents say they want to buy their own home. The percentage of respondents who want to buy a house (33%) is twice as high as those who say they want an apartment (15%), especially among people under 45.

Young people aged between 18 and 34 say they intend to buy their own home this year, although 6 out of 10 believe that the Romanian housing market will grow in 2021.

Reveal Marketing Research also shows that 30% of 18-34 year olds say they plan to buy a house, while 16% say they would opt to buy an apartment.

While for respondents over 45, maintenance costs (86%) and community/neighbors (72%) are more important. Other important details that young people consider when considering home ownership include the quality of the construction materials used (86%), the age of the building (84%) and the distance to work (72%).

Looking at the category of people who have built or are in the process of building a house, 5 out of 10 say that the construction material they have built/are building their house with is BCA. This is mainly the case among those aged 18-24 (60%), but also among those aged 45-54 (57%). 4 out of 10 respondents choose concrete because it is modern/innovative and because it is a popular, well-known material (31%).

30% of respondents choose brick because it is a safe material and wood is chosen by 8% of respondents. The latter being perceived as a healthy material with tradition in the market (23%).

The collection method for the project is CAWI (computer assisted web interview) – collection period 15 April – 26 April 2021, nationally representative sample (urban and rural), 820 interviews (440 interviews with people who have built a home in the last two years or are in the process of building a home).
