Acting Energy Minister Virgil Popescu announced “good news for millions of Romanians” on Monday evening. Household consumers will pay a maximum of 71 cents per KWh, exactly what they paid last year.

“Good news for millions of Romanians! Household consumers will pay a maximum of 71 cents per KWh, exactly what they paid last year. This is after we adopted measures to compensate and cap the price of energy and natural gas, to help citizens get through this winter,” Virgil Popescu wrote on Facebook on Monday evening.

According to him, Romanians don’t have to do anything but monitor their consumption.

“We have increased the consumption grid, there are no longer 200 kWh, following the amendment in Parliament the monthly consumption threshold is 300 kWh, plus 10% tolerance margin. For natural gas, the volume has remained the same: 1,200 cubic meters. If the price goes above 1 leu per kWh, the ceiling kicks in. For a consumption of 100 KWh, the invoice value will be 1 leu X 100, from which the compensation is subtracted, so the price will be 71 lei,” said the Energy Minister.
