Prime Minister Florin Cîțu launches the idea of bringing forward the date on which the minimum wage would increase, pointing to the 1st of November or  December, when the minimum wage could be increase by eight percent points.

“It’s a proposal I have, I’m thinking of doing an 8% increase for example, but let it be from 1 November or 1 December and then we’ll be closer to that 10% increase that the unions are proposing. It is a discussion I have to have, but it is the proposal I want to come to the Tripartite Council with,” the prime minister said, quoted by news.ro.

“I want to have a solution by 1 October, I hope we will find a solution by 1 October. There is a proposal from the employers for an 8% increase in the minimum wage and a proposal from the trade unions for a 10% increase. At the same time, I would like us to think of a formula that can be applied every year, not to discuss a percentage increase every year”, said the Prime Minister on TVR Thursday evening.

Florin Cîțu put forward the idea that this year the amount of the minimum wage should increase from 1 December, or even earlier, not from the beginning of next year.

“I want it to be approved as soon as possible so that all companies know exactly what the minimum wage will cost next year. At the same time I’m thinking, this being a special year, but again, I have to talk to the employers, if we can, this year only, raise the minimum wage earlier than January 1, let’s do it maybe on December 1 or November 1. But it’s a discussion I have to have with the employers, it’s a proposal I have, I’m thinking of doing an 8% increase for example, but let it be from 1 November or 1 December and then we’ll be closer to that 10% increase that the unions are proposing. This is a discussion I have to have, but it is the proposal I want to come to the Tripartite Council with”, added Florin Cîțu.
