The budget for 2022 will be put up for public debate on Friday and is expected to be adopted by the government on Monday, government sources said on Tuesday evening. According to them, the state budget law should be adopted by Parliament before Christmas, News.ro reports.
Government sources said Tuesday evening that next year’s budget would be put to public debate on Friday.
The document is expected to be adopted by the government on Monday and then sent to Parliament for debate and vote. Once the coalition parties have agreed, the budget is expected to be adopted by Christmas.
PNL President Florin Cîțu announced on Monday evening that the budget will have an assumed deficit of 5.84% of cash.
Earlier, Marcel Ciolacu, PSD president, had announced that there was a possibility that the state budget would be adopted at the end of January 2022, in an extraordinary session of Parliament, if it was not ready on 24 December.
He also said that the Romanian government has committed to a budget deficit target of 6.2% of GDP for next year, referring to the Excessive Deficit Procedure.
Asked by reporters at PSD headquarters whether the state budget will be adopted this year, Marcel Ciolacu said that “the Finance Minister has gathered all the requests from the ministries and we are discussing it in today’s coalition meeting, there will be meetings in the coming days and we hope to finalize it by 24 December. We have two options for the budget – either by 24 December or at the end of January in extraordinary session.”
Asked whether the PSD agrees with the deficit target of 5.84% of GDP assumed by the government in its program, Ciolacu said that “I have not assumed 5.84% of GDP. I know that the Romanian government, whoever it was, has assumed a deficit of 6.2% of GDP for next year, not 5.84%. Whoever changes government, we should assume it”.
