The European currency reached a new all-time high against the leu on Wednesday, given that the exchange rate calculated by the National Bank of Romania (BNR) was 4.9283 lei / euro, higher by 0.05 bani (+0.01 %) compared to Tuesday, when one euro was quoted at 4.9278 lei, notes Agerpres.
On the interbank market, the national currency traded between 4.9264 and 4.9305 lei for one euro.
The leu also lost ground against the US dollar, which reached 4.1792 lei, increasing by 1.67 bani (+ 0.40%) compared to Tuesday’s exchange rate, respectively 4.1625 lei / dollar. The national currency depreciated against the Swiss franc by 0.47 bani (0.10%). Thus, on Wednesday, the quotation of the franc reached 4.5475 lei, compared to 4.5428 lei on Tuesday. At the same time, gold rose by 1.83 lei (+ 0.76%), to 243.7421, from 241.9105 lei, as established in the previous meeting.
We cross the threshold of 5 lei – euro
A CFA Romania report that anticipates a budget deficit of 6.4% of GDP in 2021, an inflation rate of 3.75%, provides an exchange rate of 5.0183 lei for one euro for the 12-month horizon, respectively June 2022 – June 2021.
The brokerage house XTB is considering the hypothesis of a EUR-RON exchange rate of 4.99 RON at the end of this year, with the breaking of the symbolic level of 5 in the spring of next year.
